Let’s Get Political

I’m trying to stay away from political posts, because they aren’t much fun, I know. I just have to break and put one more up. I was thinking about our country and how it’s set up in a way that virtually nothing ever can be accomplished. If one side has a great idea to make real change, the other side finds fault and does everything to stop it. Think about it. How much has our government really accomplished after 2 centuries? There have been victories here and there, but the big battles still loom. Healthcare. Tax reform. Immigration reform. Civil rights. It seems to never end. We have had these problems on our plate for decades upon decades and not only have they not gotten better, they’ve actually grown worse. Why? Well, here’s a theory of mine, but it makes a lot of  sense to me. Because our government has grown fat and lazy and complacent. I’m not talking just Republicans or Democrats. This isn’t a party issue. This is a politician issue. If you are reading this, please just humor me and think about these issues. Really think about it. You are aware that most congressmen and senators are millionaires/billionaires, right? When it comes to issues of health care, what do they have to say about anything? It’s not an issue that they have to deal with. First, they already have insurance from the government; AKA us! We are paying for their care.  We pay their salaries, despite the fact they make millions in the private sector. Those guys are never going to  have to deal with the reality of healthcare like we do because they can afford the best of care for the rest of their lives. How can they effectively legislate when they have no idea what it’s like to be in our shoes? Simple answer is they can’t. I don’t care what sob story they may have about how they worked their way up from humble beginnings. Where ever they came from doesn’t matter. Right now they are wealthy and over-privileged. Why do we allow wealthy men and women to rule over us like they were kings? Why do we allow this to go on? I think in ways we’ve also become complacent. We don’t fight like we used to. We roll over when we see the injustice and just accept that we can’t fight city hall, but that’s wrong. We can fight. We only have to choose to.

My broad plan would be simple. Take it all away. No more salaries for any congress members who make more than fifty thousand a year in the private sector. No more health benefits. They have to go and get their own insurance through the ACA just like everyone else in this country. Those who sit upon the seat of power have an obligation to live like their constituents. How else would they know their struggle? How would they know what they need? What they want? Any one who really cares about doing the job of running this country would accept these terms. Our politicians should not live above us in their ivory towers, seemingly immune to the same standards we are all  held to. They need to be part of our communities. They need to be us.

Where is our power BTW? They can hand down laws to tell us what to do, but where is our power to tell them no? Where is our voice? We get to vote every four years? Is that it? NO! The only way to get real change in the government would be to employ the ideas outlined above. That’s the only way they would ever care; if they were impacted as well. I’m tired of being told how to live by some exclusive club of millionaires. I wish there was some other way to make this endless waltz end, but there really isn’t. The only way we’d see real change would be to cut the purse strings and force them all to live in the real world with the rest of us. If you are reading this and agree, at least on the concept of this post, pass it along. Share it. Wake up the people! We do have a voice and we can be heard but only until we all speak together! Think about what I’ve said. Really think about it. How okay are you with a bunch of old, rich men sitting on Capitol Hill in their wood paneled offices with their personal staffs, making up the laws of the land not for the good of the people, but for the good of their contributors? Maybe this is a cynical and oversimplified view, but the fact is ‘Money talks. Bullshit walks’. Most people never find a ‘side’ to an argument until after they’ve been impacted by the problem. These politicians can’t legislate because they don’t know what it is to be  us. To be a paycheck away from losing your home. To sacrificing more than you can bare to keep food on the table and your young ones healthy and happy. They have nannies and personal assistants. They have snot nosed college kids lining up around the corner to be their interns, also known as academic slaves. This is wrong! They are civil servants. They are here to serve us, not the other way around. If you’re not one of ‘them’ then great. Happy for you, but the fact is most of Congress and the Senate work like this and everyone knows it. It’s just about time that we all did something about it.

Another Thing…

I also wanted to touch on the rash of government employees refusing to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples based on religious beliefs. This needs to be punished. If you’re a private sector employee or business owner, fine. Be a hateful monster all you like. It’s your American right, but if you work for the government on any level; city, state, or federal, you have no religious beliefs. You are a civil servant and you work for the community and  you must do your job by the letter of the law when you’re on the taxpayer’s dime. Whatever your religious convictions may be, they are yours on your own time. These religious freedom laws must not apply to city, state or federal employees based on the whole separation of church and state. The government has no religious allegiance, and as such neither do its employees. If you don’t like it, quit. There are people out there who will do the job. In fact, if there’s anyone out there who knows of an opening, let me know. I could use a job right now myself.

Okay, so, it’s been a week since a major civil rights victory and the GOP and their supporters are still whining about it and I don’t think that it’s going to end. Ever. I was hoping that once marriage equality became the law of the land, it would silence the haters. I was hoping they would set their weapons down and accept defeat. RIGHT! Instead we still have the nutjobs like Huckabee and, well, basically all Republicans, telling us all how God is going to strike us all dead for redefining the  marriage that he established back in Bible days.

Oh my God. Where to start? I’ll try and take this all point by point and I will attempt to be as brief as I can. First, God did NOT create marriage. Marriage is an invention of human beings. It was originally a transaction that exchanged goods form one person to another, the woman being considered property btw. In fact, marriage for the most part was more about money and property than love for a very very long time, so in that case marriage has already been redefined. A lot.

Secondly, This was not a redefinition of marriage. Marriage is still marriage. The only thing different is that two people of mixed or same genders can be joined legally. That’s it. There are no new rules or exceptions. Marriage has been expanded to include more people. Your current marriage is intact and there is no threat to it, at least, not from the outside. If there’s any threat to your marriage it’s coming from you or your spouse. Deal with that first and then come bitch at me.

Third, why are people putting God into this? We are not having a religious debate. We are not talking about churches or faith. This is legal conversation about the legal status of marriage. This move does not affect churches directly. All that is being said is two men or two women can apply and receive a marriage license. That is in issue of law, not religion. You can hold onto your prejudice and hatred all you want, but that is your PERSONAL belief and will not shape the legal process or deny others their due civil rights. If you have a problem with gay marriage, too bad. I have problems with lots of things other people do and believe, but I don’t make a federal case of it because I understand the difference between opinion and fact. We all have to share this land and we all will live our lives differently. What one person does with their life is their business and there is no reason why my personal beliefs should impede their happiness. You are not right. That is what I say to all you Christians out there. It had to be said. I’ll say it again. You are not right. No one is right when it comes to religion. No one religion is right. Just because you believe it doesn’t make it true for anyone else. The only thing that is true whether you believe it or not is science, and science is provable. You can back science up with evidence.

Fourth, the marriage of two people is no one’s business but the two people getting married. You third parties have no dog in this fight. Walk away. Other people do not need to live their lives by your standards. Jack and Brian getting married has zero effect of your life. I saw that some woman put a video of herself crying and railing against marriage equality (God, when you hear those words, how can you fight that?) and I just wonder, why is she getting so worked up over something that she has no business even complaining about? How are you affected, crazy lady? If you think you’re so righteous and on the path to Heaven, then good for you. Go on and get that golden throne. Leave everyone else alone. We’re all dealing with our own journeys. We don’t need you screaming at us. But, in case you or someone you know reads this, re-read that Bible of yours. Particularly the parts that outline how women are nothing more than cattle. The passages that instruct women to submit completely to their husbands. Is that how you’ve lived your life? Are you clear on all of that? Did you do the Christian thing and give yourself body, soul and mind to your husband? Do you place him above  yourself in all things? Are you his slave? That’s what the Bible insists upon you. If you haven’t complied, we’ll be seeing you downstairs.

All I can say is if you’re living your life by the words of men who lived millions of years ago, you have some major issues to work out in your own head. Men wrote the bible. Mortal men with agendas who knew they could manipulate the masses by using their words. The Bible has been translated and changed countless times over the centuries. Who knows how corrupted it was back when most of the people were illiterate and only the elite and clergy could read. They knew what they were doing. They held all the cards. Essentially, whatever they said the people would believe and you think they didn’t take full advantage of that? They say the Pope is the holiest man on Earth? They believe it. They say it’s okay to kill Pagans? They believe it. It was a golden age for ignorance and fear based faith. Eons later, it’s still alive and well. It’s like people don’t want to get smarter. They prefer to be just part of the shivering herd waiting to be told where to go by their faceless leader. I don’t know why I even bother writing things like this. This ignorance will never leave us. People just wrap themselves up in what they believe and should you challenge these core beliefs of theirs, they will fight back at you with everything they’ve got, because in order to admit they were wrong means they have to reevaluate every aspect of their life and they just aren’t ready to walk in that light.

Wow. Kind of ran off the road there for a second. My final point, which is just an observation to pin next to all this. I feel the GOP is going to be chewing on this gay marriage bone because they need  the wedge issue. Now that it’s legal, they just lost a plank in their platform. They lost an issue which they were able to use to stir up fear and hate and score some votes. They are certainly not going to just give it up, although they really have no choice. They lost and there’s nothing they can do about it. They’re just going to have to find something else to hate.

The Battle For Equality

It comes down to this. All the uphill battles. All the failures. All the victories. Now the Supreme Court is deciding on the issue of same sex marriage. I feel a little less passionate about this issue now, only because based on the direction we’ve been going, marriage equality seems assured at some point. It’s only a matter of time. However, the hate groups still make my blood boil all the same and they are out in force now. It’s their last stand to vindicate their self righteousness. I have tried to veer away from their words just for the sake of my own peace of mind, but I read a recent article about the words of Josh Duggar. This guy is one of the 19 kids on that train wreck of a reality spectacle ’19 kids and counting’. He’s also the head A$$hole in charge of one of the leading gay hate groups in America.  He was out there on Capital Hill spouting off about he and his fellow ‘Christians’ are the victims now. Was he really trying to get people to feel sorry for the plight of the modern ‘Christian’? You guys have  been gaming the system in your favor since day one and now that you find yourselves on the minority side, you’re panicking and this is how you react. You know that your views are not popular and you’re in the thralls of your last death gasp as you try to hold onto whatever control you once had, but it’s over. Now they cry discrimination. They cry religious freedom. Your religious views are your private business and no one is punishing you for having them. You can believe whatever you want, but you can’t dictate the lives of others based on your beliefs. What you believe, may not be what others believe and just as your views are valid, so are theirs. No one is right in the realm of faith or religion. It is just what you believe.
This particular quote caught my eye. From Josh Duggar:
“Right now in America there is an agenda to silence people of faith, those who hold a dissenting opinion,” Duggar told CBN. “That’s not what America was founded on. America was founded on respect, tolerance, and really not discriminating against people based on their religious convictions.”

Really? So, what exactly are you doing? In case you can’t afford a dictionary with all that reality show money, it’s called ‘discrimination’. I can’ believe
this lesson has been so hard to learn for so many, but to repeat for the bazillionth time, discrimination on any grounds is WRONG! It’s wrong to discriminate against
a person’s race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or nationality. It’s wrong across the board. It’s indefensible, but here are the ‘Christian’ hate lords doing
their damnest to defend it; because apparently discrimination is okay, as long as it’s not against them. They’re fine with it so long as they’re the ones discriminating.
Not that they’re being discriminated against in the first place. Not being allowed to judge and persecute people is not discrimination. You have a right to your opinion and
your religious beliefs, but so does everyone else and there is nothing saying that you ever have to agree with anyone. You don’t have to like it, but you can’t
infringe on their civil rights due to your own beliefs.
I think we can expect these nut jobs to stick around for a while longer. The Religious Right is like a cornered animal now that they see that their beliefs and their
vision for this country are falling into the minority when they used to enjoy a majority rule. They see that they are loosing their grip on this country and are shifting
into panic mode. They will do and say whatever they have to preserve this imaginary utopia they have built up in their minds. Even the younger generation of their ranks
are waking up and realizing that there is no reason to hate or marginalize anyone, for any reason.
I’m just sick and tired of these jerks crying foul when the game isn’t going their way. You guys have ruled the roost for centuries, but you could not have expected
to stay on top forever. You had to see that your ideals would one day become antiquated and despised by a new generation. Your time has come. Now be good and lay down and die already.
BTW, think on this. The Pilgrims came here to escape religious persecution, but once they got here, they did nothing but persecute. They targeted women, people of different faiths, The Native Americans.
They stole, killed and lied to take this land and build it into the country we see today. Please don’t forget that. God didn’t give us this land in a big box with a pink ribbon. It was taken by violence.
Spare us all your holier than thou bull$hit, please! And Josh Duggar, you are an idiot. A world class, A-1 idiot. I hate to reduce this to name calling, but some people just
so deserve it and you are one of them. If you hate a certain group of people, say so. Don’t duck behind your Bible and claim that you are acting in interest of any higher purpose. You shame real Christians who actually understand the teachings of Jesus and put them into practice every day. At the end of the day you should look back and try to name one thing you did in that day that was truly Christian. If you’re honest with yourself, I think you will find your self wanting, but then I doubt that you would be honest with even yourself.

Election Day 2014

The day to clean house has come and gone and it looks like the voters decided to not change all that much. After all the drama and poor decisions and disasters in our nation’s capital, people seemed to have completely missed the point. I’m actually quite surprised at some turn outs. Rick Scott has been re-elected in Florida, thereby maintaining its status as worst state in the country. He adopted a dog to win one of his campaigns and then returned the poor thing after winning. I’m sorry, but that one instance of inhumanity is all I need in order to know what kind of man he is, and that anyone would want him to run their state baffles me. Many other Repub incumbents are keeping their jobs, for some unknown reason. Or maybe there is a reason. Too many people going to the voting booth informed only by rumors or baseless opinions from others. People are just too lazy to research the candidates. They usually will just vote for the guy they voted for last time. That would explain a lot of the repeats I’m seeing tonight. Makes me wonder what’s worse. No vote, or an uninformed vote. Take a look back at all the trouble the Repubs have dragged us through over the past five or six years. A shut down. A credit downgrade. Another batch of wars we’ll never pay off. And then, our president gets tagged as the scapegoat for the woes we now face, when he actually has dragged us up from the muck left by the guy before him. He’s grown our economy, reduced our debt and unemployment but so many people will never know that because they either don’t believe it or just plain won’t hear about it because it’s one of those things you really need to research. If you say that this country is in pretty bad shape now and that’s on Obama, I got news for you. You should check out what shape we were in before Obama. We had a negative GDP. We were bleeding money on a daily basis and our stock market was at its weakest. Today, our debt has been cut (Yes, it has. It’s still huge, but it’s less now than it was six years ago) We have enjoyed a long period of job growth in the private sector. You don’t like how the president has been doing his job? Well, I applaud his work. Especially when you factor in that what he’s had to do, he’s done not only with no support from Congress, but actual opposition from them. He’s been fighting the right wing every step of the way. If you wanted a better country now, you should have voted for representatives who would work WITH the president rather than the ones who chose to declare a war on him. And today, many voters have ensured that we are in for years of more madness. More right wing whackos getting the high sign so we’re going to have people who believe that the Earth is only a few thousand years old and man magically appeared one day setting the rules for the rest of us. It seems like Mitch McConnell and his cohorts could all gather in the street and murder puppies and babies in broad daylight and Obama would be blamed for it.
It also cuts both ways. There are some blights on the left. Gov. Jerry Brown got re-elected tonight and I have no idea why. The only good thing he did was stand up against Prop. 8. After that, it’s been terrible. Rising taxes and we’re still no closer to legalized marijuana. I just would like it legalized for the tax money. With the tax money this state could get from that it would actually put us in the black and Brown could continue with his idiotic projects without dumping the expense on the taxpayer. I mean, really? Was anyone paying attention to what was happening to this state at all?
Maybe after reading this you may think I’ve lost faith in the system and that’s not true. I still believe it can work. It has before. I feel it’s sad that the people who HAVE lost faith in the system are the ones we just elected. They don’t care about you or me or this country. They’re just loading up the lifeboats and then waiting it out until retirement. I’ve always felt there need to be changes. Politicians should be paid the median average income from their district. They should have to live on the same level as those they represent. I really don’t think they should be paid at all, really. It used to be that they weren’t, and now they really don’t need to be paid. They’re all already rich. How many schools could be saved with one paycheck of John Boener’s? I don’t see how our elected civil servants can sleep living as they do while those they are supposed to fight for are struggling. Maybe then we would get people in the jobs who actually want to do the work, not just enjoy the perks.
Well, America. You have spoken. So now, whatever happens after this is on you. God help us all.

I’ve been hearing a lot of noise about the recent ‘disrespect’ the President showed for our armed servicemen with his ‘latte-salute’.
It’s fascinating to me. Whatever Obama does is either an attack on something or other or complete affront to our precious American ideals; despite the fact other presidents have done similar acts with little to no notice. In this particular instance, George W. Bush saluted while holding a dog. You’ve all seen the picture and if you haven’t, check it out. I think his salute was way worse than Obama’s. Besides, give the man a break! He’s got the most stressful job in the world during one of the most stressful times in American history. He’s dealing with a Congress constantly fighting him here at home, a suffering economy, people screaming at him for progress on gun control, immigration, and a laundry list of other issues. So he steps off his transport and throws a fast salute to the servicemen. BIG DEAL! Besides, if you want to talk about proper respect, let’s look at how the Repubs and Fox News have been treating our President. From day one they’ve been hounding him for his birth certificate, there have been slurs and racial insults from the right wing media. Many of these continue even to this day. I’ve heard many times that if you don’t respect the man, at least respect the office. Yeah, it hasn’t been perfect, but can anyone name any president who did everything right and made everyone happy? Considering his wins, including stabilizing a nose-diving economy, redemption of the national GDP and reducing the unemployment rate, I’d say he’s done a pretty good job. If the Congress had tried to work WITH him instead of standing in his way every step of the way, one can only imagine the good that could have been done, but they were more obsessed with sabotaging his administration, and then when he used his executive power to sidestep Congress in order to get things done, they cry foul and accuse him of abusing his power. He was only using his powers because they refused to use theirs. It looks to me like the president was the only one up there who cared enough to work for his people while the overfed Senators and Congressmen, with their million dollar+ salaries, pursued their own agendas, and in some cases, those schemes brought this nation to the brink of disaster.
So you want to talk respect? Here’s a lesson: Give and get it. Simple as that. Don’t piss all over someone and then pitch a fit when the guy you’ve been dumping on falls short of your ideals of what respectable behavior entails. Try walking in that person’s shoes for a moment.

A Big Day For GOP

I know it’s been a long time since I’ve posted and for those who actually like reading these things, my apologies. I’m trying to be better about it, but with so many other writing projects on my plate, it’s hard to find the time, but after the heaping helping of GOP nonsense yesterday, I felt the need to rant.
It was a big day for the Repubs yesterday. Two particular events caught my attention. First, and most reported I’m sure, the lawsuit against Obama was approved. So, let me get this straight. For the past 6 years they have dug in their heels for the one and only purpose of sabotaging our president. At every turn they would filibuster or obstruct and do everything in their power to stop Obama from doing his job, and when he was pushed against a wall and was forced to use his executive power to go around their obstructions, they would whine and call foul. When he was doing their job they’d bitch about him ruining the country and when they tied his hands from doing anything, they’d bitch about him doing nothing. All the while the country has been circling the drain slowly and all the time and energy that could have been spent fixing things was spent on this not-so-secret war against our first African-American president. Now they have been given the go ahead to spend taxpayer dollars to file a lawsuit against the president because they say he wasn’t enforcing a law that they didn’t want in the first place. So, the business of running this country is going to have to wait even longer because they want to pitch one last tantrum before the end of Obama’s administration. The outrage I feel is difficult to measure. The GOP has spent so much time with this pointless in fighting and finger pointing and now they want to tie up our system with this pointless lawsuit. Why the Hell are these guys ever re-elected. I realize the Dems haven’t always been saints, but come on! The facts are as plain as day. As bad as you may think the Dems may be, at least they have been on the job. They showed up and did what they had promised the people who voted for them. The Repubs have been scheming and plotting against us just to make Obama look bad, but all the while if they had just worked with him, we could have gotten this country back on track, but their hatred was more important to them than doing what was right. I think the good Obama has done so far, and he has done a lot, is a miracle. Sure there are problems. There always will be. I have no idea why everyone though Obama was going to solve every problem. Has any president ever done that? No. And I’m sure some of you out there will make the observation that he’s made some new problems. Maybe he has, but again, what president hasn’t? George W. Bush, anyone?
Secondly, the congress has officially went on the record to say they will not honor the Pope because he sounds too much like Obama. They don’t want to honor the Pope, the first one from America, because he speaks of equality and the evils of corporate greed. Are you serious? They are openly saying they don’t want to pat the Pope on the back because he advocates equal treatment of all people? I mean, this one is almost beyond my scope. I might have an aneurism over this one. It’s almost like they’re standing up and saying ‘Yes! We’re evil and proud of it!’. It just feels like doing this is them actually saying they don’t believe in equality at all. Really showing their true colors. And of course, they are quick to run to the defense of the corporate world, the only entity greedier than them. How dare the Pope speak out and call on the corporate weasels to actually have a moral conscience. We all know they’re greedy monsters who would see the world burn if they could make an extra buck, but they seem to think they hide their evil.
I don’t know what’s going on anymore. It seems like the GOP doesn’t care anymore about winning elections. They are hell bent on doing everything they can to undermine our government all for the purpose of making one man look bad, but in the end it’s them who will be judged harshly by history. I mean, at this point Obama could commit murder and still come out looking better than Boehner. Anyone who votes Republican after all of this has got to be completely brainwashed. See the light! Please!

Big Day For The Supreme Court

It’s a great day for someone today. The Supreme Court not only eliminated campaign contribution limits, but they also have declined challenges to gun control laws. I’m starting to think these guys in the robes are the real problem. They are really trying to stack the deck for their own party. I thought they were supposed to be impartial. BTW, I love this quote:

“With the ruling, we continue to chip away at the long entrenched status quo from the grassroots — a status quo that has kept challengers, better ideas, and new entrants to the political arena mostly locked out,” McCutcheon said in a statement. “Ensuring that citizens are able to contribute to multiple candidates or causes who share their views only provides further support to a system in which ‘We the People’ hold the ultimate reins of power.”

He’s actually trying to say the rich and privileged are the victims in this. Are you kidding me!? If your party is losing, maybe it’s because their ideas and policies are out of step with the rest of the nation. Maybe you should attend to that first. And once more, the Supreme Court makes a ruling that completely flies in the face of all sense and justice. I mean, they aren’t even trying to be subtle about it. They’re the ones responsible for this Citizens United nonsense in the first place. I really hate that thing. The name makes it sound noble, but all it does is give corporate America a blank check to buy the government and now they’ve opened that up even wider.

Get ready for the future people. A government that’s up for sale and guns for the mentally unstable. Woo hoo!

7 Days A Week?

Okay. This got my blood boiling. It seems Wisconsin Republicans Glenn Grothman and Mark Born have authored some state legislation that would effectively create a 7 day work week for retail employees. And guess what. They’re circulating this piece of legislation on behalf of the state’s largest business organization.

Think on that.  A bunch of overfed CEOs are gathered at the table in some boardroom complaining they aren’t making enough money. They can’t afford the latest Ferrari or they can’t add that eighth room to their mansion. Poor guys. Solution? Make the workers work longer hours. Squeeze a few more drops of blood out of those lazy, minimum wage  earning drones. Maybe that’s over dramatized, but basically that’s what is going on and the GOP is taking the side of the business owners. To hell with the little guys. I guess it’s better for them to make sure the little guy stays the little guy because if ever the day comes they rise up, the GOP is in for a world of hurt. It seems like these days the GOP is doing exactly that. They are doing everything they can to make sure those that are on the bottom stay there.

I say that the minimum wage workers of the nation need to band together and bang on the GOP’s front door and tell them in no uncertain terms that they are not mindless drones, or machines owned by these companies. They are not mere equipment to be used by their employers until they break down and are replaced one day. They are human beings with families and dreams and a desire to live their lives, not work in your stores/factories. They didn’t come out of school with the dream of standing on their feet for 8 hours  a day, 7 days a week, checking groceries until the day they died. They maybe wanted to travel to Europe, or simply wanted to raise a family. Whatever their goal in life is, they have as much right to pursue it as anyone else, but the fat cats above are trying to take that away now. Even that much freedom is too much to allow. Where the hell do they get off? I’ll tell you CEOs what. If your profits are down and you need more people working, get off your own asses and do it yourself! It’s your business. The responsibility falls ultimately to you. Pull all those vice  presidents you’ve got and get them out into the trenches with other workers. Fill in a few shifts yourself. You say you’re too old to be doing such work? Well, I’m certain you’ve got many employees older than you doing that same work, so spare me that excuse.

The corporate culture in this country has grown so lazy and shiftless. They want more profits, they cut their employees benefits or salaries or they just force them to work more hours. They don’t want paying for health insurance to cut into their profits, so they cut workers hours, and therefore make them ineligible for decent benefits. The corporate kings of this country are raping and pillaging us and we’re letting them!

The GOP fight for them claiming that a higher minimum wage would cost jobs and hurt the economy, yet at the same time all their policies have not only not helped our economy but have hindered it. Billion dollar companies don’t pay taxes while struggling families are forced to carry the burden. I have been paying attention long enough to know what’s going on. The GOP has chosen to represent a small portion of this country with all the money. They do this because who’s going to finance their re-election campaigns? For instance, consider the Koch Brothers. They have been pouring millions of dollars into GOP campaigns for congress and senate so that when their boys get in there, they will do what they want them to do, and they will do what they want them to do because they want their money. It’s a vicious, corrupt cycle that needs to end before our government becomes nothing more than a prop. Honestly though, I don’t know how much longer the Koch Brothers’ wealth is going to last if they keep dumping all this money into politics. It’s just about the worst investment you can make. Look at all the backers who hedged their bets on Romney. They lost big time. Bad investment. And a lot of those guys supposedly make their money investing money and advising others how to invest. Kind of tells you something, doesn’t it?

The GOP fight against school lunches, yet have no problem with their free meals. They don’t want affordable healthcare for the public, but have no problem with their healthcare packages. They make millions in the private sector, but still take their federal pay and then complain about all the money we’re wasting on education. It just seems there is a major corruption of priorities here. They live in their ivory towers like royalty and hold court over us like we should be grateful.

I know this isn’t going away. It never will. They right the rules and their first priority is naturally to protect their own interests. Although if a day ever comes that we can fix this, I say we take away all of their salaries. In the beginning, senators and congress people didn’t get paid at all. If they must be paid at all, they should have to earn the median income of their constituents, and if they make any money in the private sector, they shall be ineligible for federal pay. They must live in their districts and spend the majority of their time there. They should receive no greater benefit than those they represent. The certainly can no longer vote for raises for themselves. I have no idea how that happened, but that has to stop. Remember last year when Congress voted for a raise for themselves? A raise is an increase in pay as a reward for a job well done, but they didn’t do a good job. If they were regular employees, they would have been lucky not to get fired. When did we allow them to raise themselves up above us like this? They are to be for the people and of the people. Right now, they aren’t.

Yay For Hawaii

So now we have one more state in the union that allows gay marriage. It’s a slow crawl, but at least we’re crawling forward. Now, as much as I’d love to make this post all about the fantastic news, but I just can’t make that work. Despite the glowing news of today, there’s always  a little rain cloud on the radar and in this case, according to the article I read, that rain cloud is named Sam Slom. In the article I read, he was noted to state that he feels that states need to stop legislating marriage. Really, Senator? Really? Is that what you think? Is that what your party thinks? (Btw, he’s a Repub. Shock.) If that were the case, then this whole gay marriage debate would be done by now. If that were true we would have one federal law allowing marriage equality across the board, because, dear senator, by voting against the bill, which you did, you WERE trying to legislate marriage. The bill on the floor was opening up marriage to all, while voting against it was announcing support for clamping down and restricting it from a certain group. I realize there are a lot of big words flying around those halls, but that is what is normally considered legislating something. Allowing everyone to marry, regardless of race or sexual orientation, is also a form of legislating, but it expands and includes and makes the whole of society stronger. Also, isn’t legislating a part of your f#($*ing job?

Repubs are a kick. They say one thing and then do the very opposite and still maintain their righteousness, They dance around terms and semantics in efforts to not change their views, but rather to twist the world to fit their visions. They think they’re the smartest dudes in the room, but after the dust settles and the facts are in, there’s very little intelligence in what they say or do. I could list some choice moments in this realm, but I don’t want this post to be too long. Let’s just leave it at ‘legitimate rape’.

I know Dems aren’t innocent, but by my counts, they admit their mistakes and faults a lot sooner than Repubs. I mean, we’re still hearing birther crap from the right. In fact, most of their arguments for everything are pretty much the same as they were 30 years ago. Gay marriage will bring God’s wrath. Feminism will lead to the destruction of the American family. I’ll tell you what the real problem with the GOP is. They are made mostly of white, straight men and that is the one group in this country that has never had to fight for any of their rights. They had the vote. They had the property. They never had to rally for their civil rights. They don’t know what that fight is. They don’t know the value of those rights because they’ve always had them. In fact most of the time when I hear Repubs talking politics, their arguments sound as though they are coming from someone who has never been on the other side of the oppression. There are some Repubs within minority groups who do know tho, which is why it’s baffling to me that they are Repubs. How can you support a party that would just as soon throw you to the wolves? The only time they love the blacks and latinos is when it’s an election year.

Okay. Whew. Quite the rant again. Sorry. I just get fired up. Congratulations Hawaii. Welcome to the family and good luck with the forth coming legal challenges to your new law, because  there will be many but at this point, with over 15 states with gay marriage, I can’t see them doing any damage. Let the bitches throw their tantrum. Once they get beaten, they’ll crawl back under their rocks and vanish in time.
